WHAT BANKS CAN DO TO SHAPE THE FINANCIAL REGULATORY FUTURE

Scott Feinstein SVP, General Counsel, SOVEREIGN BANK - SANTANDER
Susan Ochs Consultant; Former Senior Advisor, Department of the Treasury; Contributing Columnist, AMERICAN BANKER

After a wave of recent regulations – from the CARD Act to the Durbin Amendment – banks have been wrestling with how to adjust their businesses to comply with the new mandates.  Add to that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, now operating at full steam, with plans to monitor the industry aggressively.

So, what’s a bank to do?

Are banks being proactive and getting ahead of potential enforcement issues?  Can they help the agency create a level regulatory playing field with the non-bank institutions now under its purview?  Ultimately, are banks connecting with their customers in ways that could abate enforcement and further regulation?  Hear from policy, regulatory, and industry representatives on how all organizations can move forward.
