Cardtronics Expands Into Canada

ISO & Agent Weekly | Friday, November 4, 2011

Cardtronics, the nation’s largest operator of ATMs, on Nov. 3 agreed to acquire Mr. Cash ATM Network Inc., an operator of more than 600 ATMs in Canada, to expand its operations to north of the border.

“In Canada, Cardtronics gains a new market that is nearby and home to many well-known merchants and financial institutions operating on both sides of the border,” Steve Rathgaber, the company’s CEO, said in a press release.

Cardtronics also will look to place cash machines in Canada’s most relevant retailers, thereby creating high-visibility ATM branding opportunities for financial institutions, Rathgaber said.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In the May-June issue we examine value-added products and services. What's the right mix of value-added offerings, and what's new in value-added opportunities? The issue also focuses on the EMV conversion's lack of revenue-enhancing possibilities, the shift toward providing full point-of-sale systems, predictions of merchants' impatience with the fixed acquirer network fee and the threat that comes with PayPal's e-signature deal.
