First Data, VeriFone Sign Caribbean Chip Card-Acceptance Deal

ISO & Agent Weekly | Monday, October 31, 2011

VeriFone Systems Inc. will provide EMV point-of-sale card-acceptance systems in the Caribbean to payments processor First Data Corp. in a deal the payment-terminal maker announced Oct. 31.

As a part of the deal, San Jose, Calif.-based VeriFone is working with First Data to develop applications for VeriFone’s Vx Solutions and VX Evolution countertop, wireless and PIN-entry systems.

“We selected VeriFone as our exclusive POS product offering in this region [because its] devices go beyond traditional magnetic stripe transactions by providing advanced EMV card processing, which increases a merchant’s security and authentication measures to help reduce fraud,” Phil Steurer, First Data senior vice president, said in a press release.

In the May-June issue we examine value-added products and services. What's the right mix of value-added offerings, and what's new in value-added opportunities? The issue also focuses on the EMV conversion's lack of revenue-enhancing possibilities, the shift toward providing full point-of-sale systems, predictions of merchants' impatience with the fixed acquirer network fee and the threat that comes with PayPal's e-signature deal.
